“Josh from JL has been training me for around 6 months now and WOW what a difference. I felt like an alien in the gym environment, but with Josh’s care, support and attention to detail in strength training it has hugely changed not only my body, but my attitude and enthusiasm for the gym. Josh is encouraging, knowledgeable and always creates a safe space for you to train in and always ensures you feel comfortable. Would highly recommend Josh if you’re looking to seriously start your fitness journey!”

Holly

“Couldn’t recommend Josh enough at JL Strength & Conditioning! I went to Josh with not much gym experience or confidence, but he immediately made me feel at ease. He’s been so patient with me, helped build my confidence, and made the whole process feel comfortable and enjoyable. I started seeing and feeling results much faster than I ever thought I would, which has given me even more motivation to keep going. Josh is a great guy, really knows his stuff, and genuinely wants to help you become the best version of yourself.”

Gareth

“I’ve been lifting on my own on and off for years before signing up with Josh and the difference has been huge. I’d hit a plateau and wasn’t getting any stronger but he changed my programme and sorted out my technique and I’m finally progressing again. He spots little form issues I’d never notice myself and knows when to push me. The sessions are well planned and he always explains why we’re doing things. His nutrition advice has been brilliant too.”

Emile

“I started out at the gym and really struggled to get into a routine and know what I was doing, but Josh has really helped me grow in confidence and advised me what kinds of food I should be consuming to make gains and was patient with me. Thanks Josh! Looking forward to our next session soon.”

Jon

A bit about me

Who you'd be training with, and why I do this.

As a coach I've trained everyone from complete beginners to experienced lifters, helping people lose fat, build muscle, gain weight, and break plateaus to hit new PBs. What I enjoy most is watching people grow in confidence as they realise what they're capable of.

That confidence is something I've built through my own training. I've trained consistently for over 15 years, and what started as a teenage hobby quickly became a lifelong passion. Since then I've trained across bodybuilding, calisthenics, strongman and boxing, in every type of gym going. I've taken the most relevant parts of each and learnt to train in a way that's intelligent, effective and, importantly, fun.

Training has also been a crutch for my mental health. It's got me out of some real holes over the years, and it's a huge part of why I feel confident in and out of the gym. That side of training matters to me as much as any physical result.

I know what it's like to be stuck in a rut too. During covid I fell completely out of my routine, gained a lot of weight through being sedentary and not caring about my diet or body and it put my mental health in the gutter. When gyms reopened I struggled to find any motivation to go back, but I pushed myself to do it. After a couple of years of consistent work I lost over 30kg and got into the best shape of my life. Now I feel mobile, full of energy, and happy with myself again. My drive is helping others achieve the same by being the person in their corner, helping them every step of the way.

FAQ

Frequently Asked
Questions

The stuff most people want to know before booking.

Your first session is a proper training session. A warm-up, some strength and conditioning work adapted to your level, testing key compound lifts to see where you're at, and a cool-down. We'll also talk through your goals, training history, any injuries, and how training together could look. No commitment, no card details, no hard sell at the end.

Absolutely. Most of my clients started as complete beginners or came back to training after a long break. Every session is built around your starting point, and there's no expectation that you already know what you're doing.

Yes. I've trained women of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to experienced lifters. I take things like energy levels, recovery and cycle-related changes into account when planning sessions, so training works with your body rather than against it.

Yes. I have experience working with people who are managing or recovering from injuries, and can build training that works around them safely. If you're working with a physiotherapist, I'm happy to coordinate with their guidance.

No. You don't need a Bronx membership to book sessions with me. Your Bronx pass is included within my fee, so you'll have access to their changing rooms, showers and reception area during your visit. If you want to use their sauna, that's a small additional fee paid directly to them.

Bank transfer for blocks, paid up front. Single sessions to be paid before the session.

Life happens. Give me 24 hours' notice and we'll rearrange. Anything shorter than that and the session will be lost. Genuine emergencies are always taken into consideration.

No problem. You're under no obligation to book anything after your free taster. My aim is to be the right coach for you, not just to sign you up.

Pro Bono Coaching

Limited Spaces

Fitness has been a huge part of my own life, especially through difficult periods. It's got me out of some real holes, and I know first hand how much strength training and consistency can help someone rebuild physically and mentally. If it helped me through my lowest points, I know it can help someone else through theirs.

Addiction and recovery are also close to home for me. I've watched people I love struggle with it, and I've seen first hand what it does to someone's confidence, their body, and their sense of who they are.

I believe structured training can play a real part in both mental health and recovery. It builds routine, confidence, and a sense of progress when everything else feels uncertain. I want to make that accessible to people who need it, not just people who can afford it.

I offer a small number of pro bono coaching spaces each year for people who genuinely need support but don't have the means to access it. When a space is available and the criteria are met, I'll work with you completely free of charge to help you build strength, structure and confidence.

Priority is given to individuals who:

  • Are in recovery from addiction or a mental health-related setback
  • Are experiencing genuine financial hardship
  • Are committed and able to attend sessions consistently
  • Are cleared for exercise by a medical or support professional
  • Are open to working alongside their support network (therapist, key worker, support service)

How to apply:

Send a short message with:

  • A brief outline of where you're at
  • What you'd like to work toward
  • Why coaching would help right now
  • Your availability

Spaces are reviewed and offered when available.
